They rapidly flash red and white during hunting which is how they got their name as diablo rojo (Red Devil in Spanish). This squid sits and waits just out of sight from the person peering through the keyhole. This symbolizes the unknown. Is the squid going to be helpful and unlock the door with the key, or is it lying in wait? There is always something looming ahead of us, and one never knows if it is good or bad.
